Water that is empty

A horse drinks somewhere between twenty and fifty litres a day, and considerably more in hot weather or on dry forage. Buckets and troughs only keep up with that if somebody checks them several times a day, and a bowl that has stood empty since morning is one of the common causes of dehydration and impaction colic. Instructions

Choose a position at chest height for your horse, on a wall, fence post or box side.

Fix the bowl in place with the two mounting bolts and check that it sits firmly.

Wrap the threads with sealing tape, then fit the float valve and the quick coupling.

Connect the hose to the bowl and to your water supply.

Turn the water on and check that the bowl fills and the float shuts the flow off.

Adjust the float if you want the bowl to fill to a higher or lower level.

Open the drainage plug regularly to empty, rinse and refill the bowl with clean water.
