The hunt an indoor cat misses

Boredom in a cat rarely looks like boredom. It looks like a four-in-the-morning gallop down the hallway, a plant pot on the floor, or a cat that sleeps eighteen hours a day and steadily puts on weight. Indoors there is nothing to stalk, and the stalking is the part cats actually need: the crouch, the wait, the sudden burst. A ball that moves on its own under a mat hands that whole sequence back. Your cat has to work for it, gets the burst of exercise, and settles far more easily afterwards.

Prey that hides and reappears

What separates this from a plain rolling ball is the mat. The ball travels inside a soft pouch, so it shows at one opening, disappears, then turns up somewhere your cat did not expect. That is the pattern of a mouse moving under a blanket, and it is much harder for a cat to solve than a ball crossing an open floor. Paws go in through the holes, the ball darts away, and the game resets. Interest lasts because your cat quite catches it the same way twice.

Three modes for three moods

Cats differ, and the same cat differs from morning to evening. Slow mode suits a cautious cat, a kitten still working out what the thing is, or an older cat that prefers a shorter chase. Fast mode is for the evening, when the energy has to go somewhere. Interactive mode leaves the ball still until a paw touches it, which suits cats that like to set the pace themselves and has the useful side effect of stretching the charge between play sessions.

Charge it and forget it

The ball charges over USB-C in roughly two to three hours from the included cable, so there are no batteries to buy, and it drops into a sleep mode by itself after a play period instead of running until it is flat. Slip the fur cover on and the ball becomes something worth carrying off on its own, away from the mat entirely. Wipe the hair off it now and then and it keeps rolling smoothly. Order the Purrnivo Interactive Hunting Mat and give your cat something to hunt indoors.

Tips for use

Charge the ball fully over the USB-C cable before the first session, roughly two to three hours.

Use a standard 5V 1A USB adapter and avoid strong fast chargers.

Fit the fur cover over the ball if you want to make it more tempting.

Place the ball inside the pouch of the mat and switch it on.

Start in slow mode the first few times so your cat gets used to the movement and the sound.

Switch to interactive mode when you want the ball to wait for a paw before it moves.

Wipe the hair off the ball now and then so it keeps rolling smoothly.

Check the ball, the mat and the fabric parts for wear, and stay nearby during the first sessions.
