It needs a light base. Plant pigment adds and lifts, so on medium brown hair it barely registers and on anything darker it won't show. This is the most limited shade in the red range.

Conventional dye lifts your own pigment out and puts synthetic pigment in its place. This one doesn't lift anything — plant pigment layers over what you already have, so the cuticle stays shut and there is no damage to repair afterwards.
And this shade goes further: it barely colours at all. Colourless henna leads the list, and it hardly tints. Only two of the six herbs carry any colour, and there is no manjistha or hibiscus adjusting them.
